Early Education:

Transition

Bennington Success by Six co-sponsors a wide range of effective and playful transition activities. We believe that a child’s education and readiness for school begins at birth. We also believe that guidance, coordination and communication establish linkages and ease the psychological and physical adjustment between preschool settings and primary programs for young children and their families. The following are some of the transition activities that Success by Six provides:

  • Open houses, kindergarten visits, book nights, special booklets, calendars and home visits.
  • Transition bags are distributed to 14 elementary schools to approximately 500 incoming kindergarten children. Bags are filled with markers, crayons, scissors, math manipulatives and the book entitled, Off to Kindergarten.
  • Kindercamps in August range from one to four days at various elementary schools.
  • Welcome to our class postcards are sent by kindergarten teachers to all incoming kindergarten students.
  • Transition mini-grants are offered to each elementary school to encourage transition activities.

Kindergarten transition reference guides are distributed to early care and education providers and parents. Child care providers and parents have five years worth of rich information to share about their children entering kindergarten. Transition forms convey past experiences, learning styles and individual accomplishments in developmentally appropriate language that helps kindergarten teachers develop positive and individualized programs for each child.
