Family, Infant and Toddler Program
Because all babies are different, they rarely do the same thing
at exactly the same age. As a result, it’s not unusual for parents
to have
questions
or concerns about their child’s development.
You may wonder:
- Why isn’t my daughter crawling?
- Why can’t anyone understand
what my son is saying?
- Is my child hearing or understanding
me?
The Family, Infant and Toddler Program of Vermont is a family-centered
coordinated system of early intervention services for
families who have questions
about their child’s development. For infants and toddlers,
birth to three, who
have a delay in their development, or a health condition
which may lead to a delay in their development, supports and
services come together to
meet each child’s unique needs and the needs of their
family.
With the permission of the family, anyone can refer a child
to FIT.
When appropriate, a comprehensive evaluation by a multidisciplinary
team is used
to determine eligibility and plan services. Assessment
and early intervention services
are at no cost to families.
Early intervention services may include:
- Assistive technology
- Service coordination
- Physical therapy
- Occupational therapy
- Social work
- Communication
- Nutrition
- Hearing and vision services
- Special
instruction
- Counseling/psychological
services
The Family, Infant & Toddler Program has a family-centered approach to care. With the very first phone call, parents can begin to get answers to their questions about their child’s development. All families are eligible for information and referral to local resources.
